Day at the Pool

We trekked back to Athens for the weekend. Not Athens, Greece but Athens, Georgia. We try to visit our condo every couple of weeks during the summer to make sure nothing has happened to the place.

We took advantage of the fact that many of the UGA students were home for the summer so the pool should be less crowded than usual. Once we got settled into our place, Sydney donned her new, fancy, schmancy 2-piece, red polka dotted swimsuit. We headed for the pool.

Before getting into the water, we talked Sydney into trying the arm floaties again. Unbelievably, she agreed. It probably had something to do with the fact that we bundled into the deal a new set of Barbie swim goggles that she went gaga over at Target a few weeks ago. Tracie bought it to keep people from splashing water into Sydney's eyes all the time.

Armed with arm floaties and goggles, Sydney beelined for the water. Suddenly, she was fearless. She begged me to let her go underwater. I didn't even know she knew to hold her breath when going under. Well, apparently she did. She didn't completely dunk her head underwater but submerged up to her eyes. That was impressive enough for me. Even more amazing, she pushed me away and started to dog paddle on her own. I never tried to teach her to swim. It was PHENOMENAL!! She swam for a few feet while I stayed within inches to make sure she was OK. She had a great time and giggled the whole time. Daddy was so proud of little Sydney.

We had the whole pool to ourselves by 5:00. The college students all scattered, probably getting ready for their Saturday night outings. Sydney and I didn't complain about being alone in the pool. We splashed around for another 30 minutes and headed home worn out and contented. It was time for dinner for two tired souls. It was a good day at the pool.
