First Day of Kindergarten

I can't believe it's that time already. My baby girl started kindergarten today. She had a little bit of cold feet and asked her mom this morning: "Are you SUUUUURRRE I'm going to have a good time in kindergarten?"

We got up bright and early (6:30am, which is early for night people like us) to get ready. Sydney lingered in bed until Mommy and Daddy were just about dressed. She was not as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as I would have thought but, nonetheless, she had a big smile on her face as she was getting ready for her first big step into her "real world." We decided to drop her off and speak to her teacher since we missed the orientation last week. She probably won't be riding the big yellow bus any time soon. Tracie had already made up her mind that Sydney won't be riding the bus this year. We'll see.

The elementary school was only 10 minutes away. Her teacher was waiting in Room 206 and seemed nice. I think Sydney will be just fine. We got some pointers as far as dress code and daily schedules go. There would be no tank top, no short shorts, no wearing skirts without shorts underneath, etc. Checked! We're going to have her stay for the ASP (After School Program) and pick her up before 6:00 each day. Checked! She needs a snack and a bottle of water for each afternoon. Uhhhh...not checked! We better get on that one since they apparently eat lunch around 10:30 every day to make room in the cafeteria for the bigger kids. That's crazy early!

No one got misty-eyed surprisingly. Sydney gave me a big hug (two, actually) and plopped down on the carpet. She was eager to get started and show her teacher and classmates that she's ready to be a big-time kindergarten student. Look at my big girl go!
